Flemington Railway Station upgrade

Residents are wondering if a new plan to upgrade the Flemington Railway Station could be one of the first fatalities of the election campaign.

 

Virginia Judge promised an upgrade to the station after years of complaints from residents and locals about the state of railway station, releasing   an architects impression of the new station.

 

The upgrade could include a new concourse, four new sets of stairs, four new lifts, new ticketing and staff facilities, new CCTV and lighting and a new footbridge that will lead directly into the Sydney Markets.

 

“The proposed upgrade will provide better facilities and make train travel more accessible for customers who use Flemington Station,” said Judge before the election result.

 

“It will improve accessibility for the elderly, parents with prams and anyone with mobility issues, while improving commuter safety with enhanced station lighting and CCTV.”

 

According to a member from the Flemington Upgrade Action Group, Bobby Despotov, locals have been campaigning for the upgrade for years residents and are overjoyed to see that a plan is in progress.

 

“Last year the residents of Homenbush West delivered a petition with 860 signatures to our local member Virginia Judge and Ms Judge organized a meeting for the Flemington Upgrade Action Group and local residents with key staff of the Minister for Transport to make our local case for the upgrade,” she said.

 

“This scoping study is a direct result of our joint pressure to make the station upgrade a higher priority.”

They will be hoping that Liberal and transport expert Charles Casuscelli will share their enthusiasm for the upgrade.
