Strathfield's best and brightest among HSC achievers

Students celebrate their HSC success

Strathfield’s best and brightest received their HSC results this week – and many of our top schools were represented in the all round achievers’ list for 2011.

Girls scored particularly well, receiving two thirds of the first-in-course positions. The split between public school and private school students was about 50-50, according to Board of Studies president Tom Alegounarias.

Boys, however, topped the table in highest tertiary rankings - of the 49 who achieved 99.95 , 30 were boys.

In the Strathfield area, local schools Meriden, Santa Sabina and Strathfield Girls High were represented. Homebush Boys was on the list, and Burwood Girls High had strong representation.

Meriden did particularly well, rising from 53rd to 18th in the Sydney Morning Herald's list of 100 top schools by HSC results. The list ranks schools based on credits (score of 90 and above) divided by the number of times all students in a class sat an exam.

Principal Julie Greenhalgh told the newspaper: "I think we are seeing the fruit of some very, very good programs in our junior school and our junior secondary years, really focusing on the quality of teaching and learning."

Santa Sabina moved to 68th from 39th, while Strathfield Girls High School rose from 103 to 89th.  Burwood Girls rose to 61 from last year's ranking of 124, and MLC moved slightly from 48th to 52nd place.

Students need their student number and Personal Identification Number to log-in for their exam.
