The Scene "highly commended" at Newspaper of the Year awards

The Newspaper Publishers Association of Australia has "highly commended" the Strathfield Scene at its 2011 awards ceremony in Sydney.

The Scene, just one year old in June, received its accolade despite a record entry of more than 1,000 publications from across Australia, Asia and the Pacific.

It is a great result for Strathfield – this year, there was a record turnout of newspapers, the top gong went to The Age. To be recognised in company like that after just one year is very special.

The team at Big Splash Media, the paper's publishers,  are thrilled - the more so since the people of Strathfield have embraced the paper and, increasingly, the website www.ourstathfield.com.au."

A total of 71 judges from the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia and New Zealand decided the awards.

PANPA chief executive Mark Hollands said: “This has been the largest awards ever – more than 1,000 entries. The response is an indication of colleagues working harder than ever and believing it is more important than ever to take part in industry events.”

It has been a fun journey creating the paper and working with Strathfield Council, our advertisers and our supporters.

We would like to thank everyone who help and support us and who continue to believe that Strathfield should have its own voice.

We strongly believe in the future of community news products like The Strathfield Scene and its website.  We are very happy to have this belief shared by such a prestigious judging panel.

The latest edition is out and we believe it demonstrates how the paper has gone from strength to strength.

Thanks again for your support.
