Sydney Independent Opera's Gala Concert

Event Dates: Sat, 25/02/2012

To open their season for 2012, Sydney Independent Opera is presenting a Gala Concert, featuring some of their main artists from 2011 and 2012.  Sopranos Regina Daniel and Whitney Erickson, tenor David Visentin and baritone Rapahel Hudson will combine voices with a 15 piece orchestra to present favourite arias, duets and ensembles from Don Giovanni, La Boheme, Tosca, The Marriage of Figaro, Carmen and many more.

Sydney Independent Opera is Sydney’s newest opera company, a chamber group presenting small-scale operas in english with chamber orchestra.  Founded in 2011, under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Steven Stanke, Sydney Independent Opera will present vibrant and innovative performances of operas in chamber settings from composers such as Mozart and Rossini to Britten, Menotti, Holst and others.

Steven said that “SIO aims play a vital role in Sydney’s operatic and cultural landscape by programming chamber works with creative production values and enthusiastic artistic passion.”  SIO will perform all operas in english which, Steven added, “will provide an alternative perspective for opera enthusiasts where the original work is in another language and also offer an entertaining and informative experience for the operatic first-timer.”  The company will use an orchestra of 10-12 players, with specially reduced orchestrations if needed, to allow the setting to be intimate yet dramatic with a strong nod to the original orchestral colour.

Sydney Independent Opera's Gala Concert is at the Russian Club, 7 Albert St, Strathfield on Saturday 25 February at 8pm.  Tickets are $30 / $25 concession, and are available at the venue or through www.webticketing.com.au.
