Register your dogs to get more dog friendly places

The author of a new guide to dog-friendly parks in Sydney is urging Strathfield dog-owners to register their pets if they want to ensure better dog facilities in the future.

Katie Whiffen wrote Great Sydney Dog Walks after she found it difficult to find places to walk her two dogs, Rocky, and Stella.

 “When I took my dogs out for walks, I’d run into ‘No Dogs Allowed’ signs,” she says.

Police have launched an investigation into the discovery of a hidden camera and listening devices which had been secretly installed in the homes of two Strathfield councillors.

The highly-specialised bugging equipment was reportedly found in the South Strathfield home of Councillor Paul Barron and another councillor, who has asked not to be identified.

Register now for this picturesque fun run for all ages and all fitness levels.

Have you heard the good news? The inaugural Cooks River Fun is just around the corner! This great new community event, which will follow a course along the picturesque river bank, kicks off on July 18, so you only have a few days to get into shape (see fitness advice, below).

Fun runners (and walkers) have the choice of completing either a 5km or 10km course, depending on their fitness, and the competition is divided into child, adolescent, adult and senior divisions. Medals will be awarded to the major place getters in each category.

Why our bowls club has had to close after 50 glorious years.

Flags are flying at half mast at the South Strathfield Bowling Club after it was announced that the club would almost certainly close down, ending more than half a century of sporting tradition.

Falling membership numbers and the high cost of maintaining their greens are cited as two of the main factors for the club’s demise -- expected to be formally ratified at a general meeting on July 24.

On Saturday, 19th June, Strathfield Croquet Club members will hold an introductory session starting at 2pm, to discuss the range of mallet games available at our Club,  such as  Ricochet, Golf Croquet and Association Croquet. You will have the opportunity to play one of these games.

Talent quest and family fun day at Strathfield Park this weekend.

Pray for no rain this Sunday! Strathfield Council is hosting a talent quest and family fun day at Strathfield Park. The concert will act as a platform for young performers in the area to display their talents to the locals – from dancers to musicians, and actors.

Proud parents and friends can watch from a picnic rug while the little ones run around face-painted in the petting zoo or on the jumping castle.

There will be a free shuttle bus from Strathfield Station on the day. For more info contact Strathfield Council on 9748 9999.

A celebration at Strathfield Town Hall marks the naming of the municipality in the Government Gazette on June 2, 1885.

It was a night of nostalgia and a night of celebration. A night when the old collided with the new.

A town crier, bell ringing and voice booming, greeted guests on the red carpet outside Strathfield Town Hall at Wednesday’s invitation-only party to mark the naming of the municipality in the Government Gazette on June 2, 1885.
